Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete positively, supported by an better serving game.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, securing 4 of the final five points to go ahead.

The pair exchanged breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his first professional victory, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

Moutet rescued 4 initial chances in a close final set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner secured the title with a shot at the net area, with Moutet failing to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
